NHL Revealed Episode 6 includes Stadium Series, Heritage Classic

NHL Revealed Episode 6 includes Stadium Series, Heritage Classic - NHL Revealed: A Season Like No Other Not even a week had passed since Canada celebrated a gold-medal victory against Sweden at the 2014 Sochi Olympics Patrick Kane Premier Jersey. Six days, to be exact, were all that separated Sidney Crosby and Jonathan Toews from a shared championship and what turned out to be a very special night under the lights in Chicago.Saturday at Soldier Field marked the first time Crosby and Toews faced each other in an NHL regular-season game, which Toews' Blackhawks won 5-1 against Crosby's Pittsburgh Penguins in the final installment of the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series. When the puck dropped in Chicago, the Olympics seemed like a distant memory."Stay on your feet there, Sid," Toews chirps at Crosby."He can-opened me!" Crosby yells back."Wasn't he just your teammate the last two weeks?" someone asks Toews on the Blackhawks bench. It's one of the memorable scenes from the sixth episode of "NHL Revealed: A Season Like No Other," on NBCSN in the United States and CBC in Canada. This week's episode goes into great detail about last weekend's major events: the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game at Soldier Field and the 2014 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic in Vancouver, where the Ottawa Senators defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 at BC Place on Sunday.Other highlights of the latest episode include:* Creating a game plan at Soldier Field, which featured a steady snowfall for much of the night."I couldn't tell how fast the puck was coming because it was going through the snow," Crosby tells a teammate on the Penguins bench. "I didn't know if I had time to one-time it or what."It's probably hard for goalies to see the puck man. Just throw everything at the net."On the Blackhawks bench, Toews agrees."Everything on net, everything on net," he tells his teammates.* Toews makes a wish come true for 4-year-old Nicholas Skretkowski, who has a medical condition called Wilms' tumor and strabismus. The Milton, Ontario native made the trip to Chicago with his parents. With the rink to themselves, Toews and Skretkowski skate around the Soldier Field ice before Skretkowski takes a photo with the team. The Blackhawks' generosity didn't stop there. They then practiced with the USA Warriors, a non-profit charitable organization run entirely by volunteers that offers sled and standing ice hockey programs to wounded, injured and ill service members and disabled veterans. Each Blackhawks player and hockey staff member donated an unspecified amount, which was then matched by CCM/Reebok, to help provide the Warriors with all new equipment Brian Campbell Jersey. Each member of the Warriors will receive team jerseys and socks, along with new helmets and gloves.Toews informed the Warriors of the news on the ice at Soldier Field."The boys got together to show our appreciation for everything that you guys have done and got you guys all a set of equipment," Toews said, followed by a long stick tap at center ice.* Players who weren't competing at the Olympics had some time off to spend with friends and family. Canucks forward David Booth experienced a life-altering moment, when he proposed to his girlfriend, Ashley, while the two built a snowman."This snowman's so lonely," Booth tells Ashley. "Who's he gonna spend the rest of his life with? Should we build him another one? And then I got down on one knee and I was like, 'I want to spend the rest of my life with you.'""I thought he was joking," his new fiancée says later in the program. "It's all good. I'll roll with the punches."* Penguins coach Dan Bylsma returns after a disappointing finish at the Olympics, where his United States team fell short against Canada in the semifinals then in the bronze-medal game against Finland."We all have stories coming back, and it's a disappointment we're trying to knock out of our head as well," Bylsma said. "I don't know if you totally put it behind you, but we've got to get ready for the last 24 games."* Prior to a game against the Detroit Red Wings Patrick Kane Premier Jersey, Senators captain Jason Spezza welcomes a group of children into the dressing room at Canadian Tire Centre. The group is led by James Dunn, who lost a leg to cancer. Spezza shows them around and hands Dunn a Senators Heritage Classic jersey."This is one of the jerseys we're going to be wearing in Vancouver on Sunday," Spezza tells Dunn. "I thought you'd like that one. Hope you don't have that one yet."Spezza then introduces the group to defenseman Erik Karlsson, who still looks bleary-eyed after competing for Sweden in Sochi."Tell him to get some sleep," Spezza says.* An already rough season gets worse for the New York Islanders. Their captain, John Tavares, sustains a knee injury while representing Canada at the Olympics. Tavares, who is New York's leading scorer, will miss the remainder of the season."John Tavares is a really good leader," Kyle Okposo says during his morning drive to Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. "If he knew what was gonna happen, I think he'd still go because that's how much it means to him. But he's gonna come back stronger than ever."While the Islanders are out on the ice facing the New Jersey Devils at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Tavares is riding the exercise bike in the dressing room. All he can do is watch his team while it drops a 6-1 decision.During the game, Devils forward Jaromir Jagr scores his 700th NHL goal http://www.patrickkaneshop.com/patrick-kane-jersey/patrick-kane-authentic-jersey."I never played the game for the numbers. I play because I love it," Jagr says. "I know I don't have that many games left, so every game is kind of special for me."* In what would prove to be Roberto Luongo's final days as a member of the Canucks http://www.patrickkaneshop.com/blackhawks-jerseys/niklas-hjalmarsson-jersey, the goaltender ironically discusses the soap opera he dealt with last season, when he shared the net with Cory Schneider. The latter was traded to the Devils at the 2013 NHL Draft, which opened the door for Luongo to again become Vancouver's No. 1 goalie."We all know the history with my story the last couple of years," Luongo says. "It's just good to be back this year and starting again. I wanted to re-establish myself as a No. 1 goalie in the NHL and be as good as I can be. It's been a pretty good season so far. Obviously the last little while we haven't been winning, so it's pretty tough to feel good about yourself. But you've got to be able to turn the page here and I think these last couple of weeks in Sochi (as the backup to Carey Price for Canada) really helped me come back with a fresh mindset here."Eager to play in the Heritage Classic against the Senators, Luongo instead watches from the bench after Vancouver coach John Tortorella opts to start Eddie Lack."I think I have two really good goalies," Tortorella says after the loss. "This decision was made by me to go with Eddie Lack today."This is part of the business. I have to make decisions not on consensus, [but] on what I think is best for that team. Eddie deserved to play this game, and I know people are upset. I get that. But I can't do it to make people happy. I can't and I'm not going to."Luongo was traded to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. The sixth episode in the series re-airs on Sportsnet this Sunday at 9 p.m. local time and on the NHL Network in the U.S. on Monday at 4 p.m. ET.---

Leafs cheering section in a quandary with key teammates playing for the U.S

Leafs cheering section in a quandary with key teammates playing for the U.S. - NHL.com - News TORONTO - The Maple Leafs boast a predominantly Canadian roster with 20 players holding Canadian passports; however, many are struggling when it comes to deciding who to cheer for come Friday's semifinal of men's hockey at the Olympics, which features Leafs teammates Phil Kessel and James van Reimsdyk against the Canadians. The Leafs were back on the ice Wednesday following an 10-day break. It apparently wasn't long enough, as Team Canada's 2-1 win over Latvia didn't conclude before the Leafs began practice."I was thinking we might get a little delay, but it was nice to get out there," said Tyler Bozak of watching Wednesday's game."Bozak, a native of Regina, Sask., centres a line of Kessel and van Riemsdyk. He also shares an apartment with Kessel in Toronto. He has been in touch with his linemates during the break."They're enjoying it, they said everything's great," said Bozak. "The village is nice, they're meeting lots of new people and having fun. They're winning lots of games and playing really well."When asked who he'd be cheering for in Friday's rematch of the 2010 gold medal game, Bozak appeared on the fence."It's going to be an exciting game to watch for sure Drew Doughty Jersey. I really can't make any predictions," he said. "I don't know… the U.S. has been playing great. Canada's kind of snuck by with a few wins, but every game's different and it should be a fun one to watch."I just hope Phil and JVR play really well and maybe Canada wins, I don't know."Nazem Kadri, who spent his break along with Bozak and Frazer McLaren in the Caribbean, isn't sure of Canada's chances."I want to say Canada, but to be honest, I think the U.S. looks a little bit better," said the London, Ont. native. "In tournaments like these, it's all about one game, one period swing where that could be the difference."Sudbury, Ont. native, Randy Carlyle admitted cheering for Canada isn't as easy as it may appear."I wish our players all the success in the world and I think it's important for us to never lose sight of the fact that you're part of a team, but again, I am Canadian," said Carlyle, who spent his break in California. "There is things pulling at your heart strings in different directions that's for sure."Kessel has been the talk of the tournament leading the way with five goals and eight points heading in to Friday's game. He was also the topic de jour at the Leafs' practice facility in Etobicoke Wednesday http://www.fankingsonline.com/ryan_smyth_jersey_33.html.When asked if Kessel, who is second behind just Alexander Ovechkin in regular season scoring with 31 goals, has put himself amongst the best players in the NHL, Carlyle was quick to pump the breaks http://www.fankingsonline.com/wayne_gretzky_jersey_36.html."That's a big statement for anybody to come out and proclaim on any player. It takes a longer period of time than just five years (or) six years," Carlyle said. "He's not a one-dimensional player as people described him previously. He's a guy who still has some things that we'd like him to stop doing, but he's become more of a two-way player."Kadri, who according to Carlyle returned with the best-looking tan on the team, isn't surprised at Kessel's success in Sochi."I think we all knew Phil was going to achieve more especially on that big ice," he said. "Not too many players in the league can skate with him so. Phil does a great job finding areas to get open."Carlyle admitted one player he is concerned about is Nikolai Kulemin. Kulemin was part of the Russian team, which fell 3-1 to Finland in the quarter-finals."Nobody asks questions about how you're going to feel about Nikolai Kulemin coming back and that's a tough one www.fankingsonline.com," said Carlyle. "Host country and the way their tournament unravelled."He's part of our hockey club and we've got to find a way to build him back up and get him going again."Notes: Injured forwards David Bolland (foot) Dwight King Jersey, Peter Holland (lace bite), Carter Ashton (hand) and Trevor Smith (undisclosed) were all participants in Wednesday's 50 minute skate at the MasterCard Centre. Once Bolland, Smith and Ashton return from injured reserved, the Leafs will have 25 players on their active roster and will require some moves.

The Front Line: A look at the top 10 fantasy players

The Front Line: A look at the top 10 fantasy players - Fantasy Hockey Draft Rankings, Advice and Analysis Every Tuesday during the season, NHL.com fantasy hockey expert Matt Cubeta will provide you with an in-depth analysis of fantasy forwards in his weekly segment: "The Front Line." From updated rankings to players you should keep a close eye on and much more, Cubeta will be your fantasy forwards insider all season long.UPDATED TOP 100 FORWARD RANKINGS

We see it every year. Early on in each season, there's plenty of shuffling among the top-10 fantasy rankings -- this goes for Yahoo league rankings and my rankings. I have to try and determine where I believe each player fits in with so few games accounted for. If a superstar gets off to a slow start (Claude Giroux, Philadelphia Flyers), do I drop him significantly or leave him high in the ranks with expectations he will return to past seasons' form? If a player comes out of nowhere to perform at the level of a superstar (Alexander Steen, St. Louis Blues), do I rank him among fantasy's elite? These are the questions that are most difficult to answer during the first month of the season. However, we're nearly three months into the 2013-14 NHL season and trends have now turned into realities.Giroux is no longer a roster detriment like he was in the first few weeks of the season, but he's still ranked 52nd in Yahoo leagues. That's certainly not what we expected and that's why he's ranked 26th in my latest set of top 100 forwards. Steen's hot streak has lasted all season and he's currently the 10th most valuable fantasy player in Yahoo leagues, leading him to earn a top-20 place in my ranks for how I expect him to perform from this point on.We see cases like Giroux and Steen throughout the ranks, where players have earned their high ranking or have fallen significantly despite being an early draft pick back in September.Throughout all this player shuffling, consistency has finally started to develop within my top-10 forward rankings.Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has held down the No. 1 rank all season long, and he's also been the No. 1 fantasy player in Yahoo leagues for just about the entire season. Alex OvechkinLeft Wing - WSHGOALS: 27 | ASST: 10 | PTS: 37SOG: 164 | +/-: -11 Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin started the season as my No. 3 forward but for the most part, he's been No. 2. Only Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning has prevented him from being No. 2 for the entire season, and Stamkos would likely have a case for that spot if not for his injury.Penguins center Evgeni Malkin had a rough start to the season and hasn't been a consistent goal scorer, but thanks to a November that saw him post 25 points in 15 games, he's back up to the No. 3 spot. As long as his linemate, James Neal, can remain healthy (and free of suspensions), I would expect Malkin to remain this high going forward, assuming he too can stay healthy.Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks has been a top-10 forward for most of the season, but he's moved all the way up to the No. 4 spot this week. He's in the middle of arguably the best streak of his career with four goals, 13 assists and a plus-9 rating during his current nine-game point-scoring streak. The Anaheim Ducks' Corey Perry comes in at No. 5 and has proven once again that he's the ultimate six-tool fantasy player.Perry's teammate, Ryan Getzlaf is No. 6 and as I pointed out last week, he's in the middle of a fantastic season.New York Islanders captain John Tavares started the season as my No. 5 forward and right now he's ranked 18th in Yahoo leagues. However, with exception to his minus-6 rating, Tavares is putting up points at a higher clip than he ever has in his career (37 in 34 games). Chris KunitzLeft Wing - PITGOALS: 17 | ASST: 16 | PTS: 33SOG: 103 | +/-: 14 Crosby's wingman, Chris Kunitz, was unbelievable last season and is backing that up with an equally impressive campaign this season. He doesn't carry the superstar name as some of these other top-10 players, but make no mistake, Kunitz provides near Perry-like value. At No. 9 is Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, who I ranked fourth overall coming into the season. Toews has been a bit streaky this year but he won't underwhelm in any category and when he goes on a hot streak, he's as productive as anyone.Rounding out my latest top-10 ranks is Daniel Sedin. The Vancouver Canucks forward has hovered around the 10-spot for most of the season and like Toews, he won't hurt you in any category. Playing alongside his brother, Sedin has the potential to move up a few spots, but he'll likely never fall below 15th either, which makes him very reliable. While players like Neal, the Minnesota Wild's Zach Parise, the Detroit Red Wings' Pavel Datsyuk, the Toronto Maple Leafs' Phil Kessel and a few others all have a shot to crack the top 10 later on, heading into the holiday break, this is who I believe will be the 10 best fantasy players in the game for the remainder of this season. With the holidays and the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic nearing, NHL.com's weekly fantasy hockey content (Fantasy All-Access Ryan McDonagh Jersey, The Front Line, On the 'D'-fence and In the Cage) will return after the New Year. However, with the midway point of the 2013-14 NHL season approaching (Jan. 2, 2014), we will be releasing our updated top-200 overall fantasy rankings on Monday, Dec. 23.TRENDING UPWARD Taylor HallLeft Wing - EDMGOALS: 12 | ASST: 16 | PTS: 28SOG: 96 | +/-: -9 Taylor Hall, Edmonton Oilers -- Hall is going to hurt your plus/minus (minus-9). That is a fact and you have to accept it. However, his point production is outstanding and he has the potential to move up even further in my forward ranks. With five goals and four assists in his past seven games, Hall now has 28 points in 28 games with seven of them coming on the power play and he's also averaging 3.4 shots on goal per game.Brandon Saad, Chicago Blackhawks -- Saad has been in and out of my top-100 rankings, but riding shotgun alongside Kane should see Saad's value soar the rest of the way. The sophomore forward has five goals and two assists in the past seven games and his plus-18 on the season is second among all forwards.TRENDING DOWNWARDHenrik Sedin, Vancouver Canucks -- While Daniel remains a top-10 forward, Henrik is falling out of the top 20. Sedin is usually good for a point per game, but right now he's not coming close to that despite his team's success. The Canucks captain has four points in the past eight games and just 13 shots on goal during that span.Alexander Semin, Carolina Hurricanes -- Semin is healthy again, which is a good thing Boogaaro Jersey, but I think it's time to send him to waivers regardless of his health. Owned in 75 percent of Yahoo leagues, Semin has three goals and six assists in 22 games, including no points in the two games since returning from his injury. Semin has the skill to heat up in the second half of the season, and if that does happen, you can always go add him again.KEEP AN EYE ON ...Michael Raffl, Philadelphia Flyers -- Raffl is currently skating on Philadelphia's top line with Giroux and Jakub Voracek and so far, so good. The Austrian native forward has two goals and four assists in his past four games and while I don't expect him to keep it up (he might not even stick on this line) Dave Bolland Jersey, he could make for a nice pick-up for the immediate future and is worth monitoring.
